Prescription and Medicines Centre

BACK TO MAIN INDEX

Please request your repeat prescriptions at least 3 working days before you need them, so we have enough time to review and issue them safely.

Due to very high demand, we’re not able to fast‑track or make exceptions to this 3‑day timeframe.

Once we have issued your prescription, your pharmacy may need up to 5 days to prepare and dispense your medication, so please order in good time to avoid running out.

If you prefer, you can also order your medication directly via your pharmacy, who can then send the request to us electronically.

Going on Holiday? Plan Your Medication in Advance

We understand that organising your medication before travelling can feel stressful. Planning ahead helps ensure you have everything you need.

Check your current supply

Before ordering, please check what medication you already have at home. You may already have enough to cover your trip.

Prescription processing times

Repeat prescriptions take 72 hours (3 working days) to process. Requests made at short notice cannot be accommodated.

Holiday medication requests

We may be able to provide an early or slightly larger supply if:

  • You are travelling for a short period
  • It is safe for your medication

Please note:

  • We are unable to process last-minute requests
  • Some medicines (e.g. controlled drugs) have strict prescribing rules
  • We must follow NHS safety guidance

If you run out of medication

A pharmacy may provide an emergency supply:

  • Short-term only
  • At the pharmacist’s discretion
  • May need to be paid for

Bring:

  • Your repeat slip, or
  • Medication packaging, or
  • A list of your medicines

What we need from you

Please tell us:

  • Your travel dates
  • How long you’ll be away
  • Which medicines you need
  • Order using your usual method (NHS App, online, repeat slip, or pharmacy).

Travelling for more than 3 months?

  • The NHS usually supplies up to 3 months’ medication.
  • You will need to arrange further supplies abroad if away longer.
  • Top tip: Request early to avoid stress before your trip
